Honouring a Legacy. Supporting the Future.

The Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust is proud to establish the Professor Shaun McCann Educational Bursaries, honouring the remarkable contribution of Professor Shaun McCann to the development of stem cell transplantation in Ireland.

Professor McCann played a pivotal role in establishing the transplant unit at St. James’s Hospital in 1984 and shaping its subsequent development. These bursaries recognise his lasting legacy by investing in the knowledge, skills and professional development of the staff who continue to advance stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.

Supporting Education and Excellence

The bursaries are open to staff working across medical, nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, allied health, data management and translational research disciplines.

Funding supports educational and professional development initiatives, including the development of clinical or laboratory procedures, visits to other transplant units for a defined purpose, preceptorships and attendance at relevant professional meetings where alternative funding is unavailable.

Awards are expected to range from €3,000 to €5,000 per project, helping staff develop expertise, share knowledge and contribute to improvements in patient care and transplant services.

Applications

Applications are submitted using a simple form outlining the proposed initiative and its objectives. All applications are assessed by the Board of the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust.

The bursaries are intended to be awarded annually, subject to the availability of funding.

Through this initiative, BMLT continues its commitment to supporting the dedicated professionals whose expertise, innovation and care make a difference to patients and families affected by blood cancer.

Please submit your completed application to both Professor Paul Browne at paul@bonemarrowtrust.ie and Dr. Eibhlin Conneally at eibhlin@bonemarrowtrust.ie
