In 1999 Michael & Breege Mulvihill, from Glenfarne in North Leitrim lost their beloved son Seamus through leukaemia. Seamus was treated in St James’s Hospital. Since December 2001 the Family with a huge team of friends within their community set about fundraising for a charity close to their hearts The Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust.
What started out initially as a cake sale developed into abundant fundraisers within the past 18 years. Their fundraising efforts included, Christmas Card Sale, Car Wash, Sponsored Walk’s, Christmas Day Swims, Head Shaving, Leg Waxing, Church Gate Collections, Tractor Parades, along with many more events.
Last Sunday night at their annual dance in the Ballroom of Romance, Glenfarne their dream became reality when the family and friends exceeded a cumulative fundraising sum, in excess of €140,000.00
The continued support of the people of Leitrim and surrounding counties has been paramount to the success of this mammoth sum. Once again, the Mulvihill family and friends want to thank each and every person who took part or supported them over the years and they hope to continue in the future in helping out The Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust in whatever way possible.
“Knowing that their efforts are truly having an impact on so many families fighting this illness and the unimaginable obstacles it poses to families is what continues to motivate them.”
