By: Ciaran Bawle,

Billy Byrne, Shane Murphy, Darragh Flannery, Jonathan Niall, and  Ciaran Bawle  are running the San Diego Marathon on the 2nd of June 2024 to fundraise for the Denis Burkitt Ward and the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust C.L.G.

We have chosen to fundraise for this Trust as we have seen first-hand the incredible impact of their work. All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause.

My brother, Cathal, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at the end of September 2022. He underwent his treatment in the Burkitt Ward, in St James Hospital.

In January 2023, we were lucky enough that I was a match and could be a donor for a bone marrow transplant. The transplant took place on the 12th of January. The transplant went extremely well and Cathal continued his recovery in St James Hospital.

Two months after the transplant had taken place, with Cathal’s recovery going well, he was able to move into an apartment owned by the Trust. This was hugely beneficial to Cathal as it helped him transition closer to a normal life before moving back home.

Due to all the hard work and support of the staff of St James’ Hospital and the BMLT, Cathal is recovering well and almost back to himself.

We are fundraising to show our appreciation for all the work that the Trust does and to help support any other patients who may be in a similar situation to Cathal.

Your contribution, no matter the amount, will make a significant difference. Click the Donate button here to support our cause securely. Additionally, sharing this page would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you sincerely for your support, Ciaran, Billy, Shane, Darragh &  Johnny.
