My family and I took on the challenge of raising money for this wonderful cause, motivated by our granny’s diagnosis of Leukaemia late last year.
We hosted fundraiser events in my hometown Carlanstown over 2 nights with the help of our local pub Kiernans. The two events were held on the 21st and 22nd of April with a big pub quiz hosted by our local comic on the Friday. On the Saturday, my sister Erin bravely shaved her hair for the BMLT.
The owners of Kiernans Pub, Sean and Sharon generously provided a fantastic location and enough food and drinks to feed an army! My sister Danni planned and coordinated the events for the two days and ensured they both went swimmingly.
Cooper Insulation are a family owned business that made it possible to facilitate a big raffle with fantastic prizes. The last hurdle for us to achieve our fundraising goal was my responsibility, pounding the pavement at the Limerick marathon on April 30th. I achieved it in a time which I was very proud of but none of that would have been possible without the help and support of my family and friends that cheered me all along the 26 miles.
In total we raised a whopping €13,422.70. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to make this possible and will hopefully help families in need of this foundations resources.
One of the pillars of the BMLT is to support not just patients but also their family and friends. A sense of community is hugely important for a person fighting this merciless disease and events such as these have highlighted to me the power of your community and how we can make real change and for that I am extremely grateful.
